Grow 03:45
The grass is so green and ancient wisdom we cut down been growing green forever If I could be a blade of grass I'd stand up straight every time they cut me down the trees are so strong branches reaching out the friendliest of friends stand together If I could be a tree in a forest with roots deep I'd give my shade for free and tiny woodland animals a place to sleep but I am less than a tree but not much more than a blade of grass. because sometimes I let people walk all over me the workers are tired an aging engine can break down you can't get ahead on overtime forever If I was the whole working class I'd walk straight out and not look back depend on the nature growing through the cracks and sell all of my things mother natures worried oh the blissful path we've taken can't plead your ignorance forever Mother nature spoke to me said leave behind man's mediocrity ignore consumer hypocrisy and come on home to mama because you are more than a worker so much more than a consumer so don't let people walk all over you Let me plant you in my soil you have roots to grow before you can bare your fruit or share the beauty of your spring blooms so let me plant you in my soil and you'll be just like a blade of grass stand up straight and grow back up every time they cut you down and you'll be just like a tree in a forest with roots deep branches reaching out so humanly and you'll have so much love and more will come back and so you will free

The Neighbour Song I moved into this city reluctantly, I feel Trapped in this apartment like an animal in an overpopulated shelter My neighbours are just like me Their locked in above, below and all around me So we never get to meet Well occasionally, on the street, in the parking lot, or the hallway The elevators my favourite, Which floor, seven, I’m Richard, unit 23, Won’t you come and visit me You might see me Standing at the top of the stairs Screaming at my neightbours I love you, oh I love you But I don’t know how I love you, oh I love you Show me how Open up your door Let me in Or come on out Where we can begin Classic example, old man in the foyer I’m acting like a hippie being really friendly again He asks me, condescendingly Where are you going? Where do you see yourself in five years, son? I am where I am, I’m where I’d like to be If you’re here too, spend sometime and teach me a thing or two. Sir. Another example, attractive young woman in my hallway, mmm.hmmm.mmm I say hi, as she passes by, and she ignores me, so I ask her her name She turns to me, accusationally Who do you think you are, and why are you talking to me I am who I am I’m who I’d like to be Question where your expectations come from And sweet heart you could have a conversation with me Chorus To see eye to eye, discover less is more Poverty should make your heart not your eyes sore Sorry I’m saying this, but there’s a lot left to be desired here. And don’t even started talking about the suburbs. Chorus, verse one.

The starving artist Now I know I’m not a winner, and I’ll probably never be but I don’t wanna spend my whole life, in urban poverty So I’ll stand in the welfare line, and I’ll eat in the soup kitchen and if I never find a job, guess I’ll have to live creatively If i wanna see, the most beautiful art and I’ll shake that artists hand and ask em how he got his start and its’ Mr. Picasso. what does it mean is the beauty that its simple or to complex to see for me I will master this craft or I will starve and I’ll never taste the sweetest wines and say how grape they are I’ll find a canvas and never put my brushes down and I’ll pay that gallery their expensive competition fee and everyone will see the most beautiful art and they’ll shake my artist hand and ask at how much do they start and its Mr. Picasso what does it mean is the beauty that its simple or to complex to see for me then I’ll pass a child who draws chalk on the side walk and never puts a hat out says all art should be free and I’ll meet a hippie singer with torn jeans and broke guitar and he’ll say pay what you can i don’t wanna starve and try and see the most beautiful art was made by starving artist hands who never waited for a break to start

I'm gonna try and force a smile Hope I feel better in a little while. And when I feel the sunshine Oh I start to feel fine When I see a rainbow I start to glow Like everyone share's the circle earth So everyone share the circle earth And if you break the ground share the food And if you didn't do the work come on and pay what its worth And everyone will share the circle earth If I push through like yesterday There's less worry for tomorrow when you love today And when I feel the sunshine Oh I start to feel fine When I see a rainbow I start to glow Like everyone share's the circle earth So everyone share the circle earth And if you break the ground share the food And if you didn't do the work come on and pay what its worth And everyone will share the circle earth There's enough to go around So let's share our wealth until everyone is fed Until everyone's in good health And just imagine, oh imagine a way And let there be a will And everyone will share the circle earth Oh everyone will share the circle earth Oh everyone will share the circle earth Oh everyone will share the circle

The Harvest 03:57
The Harvest Like the sun, The sun rise I’m heading, heading west Like the wind the cold north wind I may never find my rest But my home is waiting my home is calling my home is ancient westward mountains like the work the workers day The fruits of my labour are never my wage like the pain the workers pain i may never go away buy my home is waiting my home is calling my home is golden fields of wheat for the harvest the harvest is plenty the harvest is plenty but the workers are nowhere in sight so like the war, the war we’re waging i am bloody, i’m a sacrifice like the hatred, the hatred thats winning i don’t know how to live my life my home is waiting my home is calling my home is sacred like a tree standing so tall Verse one

Listen Well 03:51
The life I live is so comfortable so its hard to see the lives my privilege costs But I'm waking up slowly reality's harsh on me i was never really living the dream the days have gone when I've felt nothing at all the days will come when I fear nothing big or small So hold on to truth my friends Hold on to freedom hold out your helping hand and truly love will be yours again I have friends who still plead ignorance and they're living in a yuppie bliss pursuing capital happiness the days have gone when I've felt nothing at all the days will come when I fear nothing big or small So hold on to truth my friends Hold on to freedom hold out your helping hand and truly love will be yours again listen, listen well we wanna see the trees standing tall you can hear the native voices calling feel the drum beating so loud see the people dancing so loud only sacred fires now

I got bills due and a line up of gigs that probably won't pay So I work and work until I'm too tired to play and sing ladedadeda hey hey ladedadeda hey hey Something about changing the world I wrote yesterday So I read a book and watch some tv and dream about a different me and he's younger and taller and when he sings everyone listens and believes so ladedadedade hey hey ladedadeda hey hey somethings screaming Wake up, wake up, your love, your love wake up child its early watch my sunrise come to bless you and lift your spirits up Wake up, wake up, your love, your love And I pray and tears run down my face As I praise the earth beneath the words of grace Wake up, wake up, your love, your love use your gifts chase your dreams

To Grow - A collection of songs inspired by a community that desires justice, collaboration and well-being. The songs explore what it means to grow as individuals and collectively. Richard searches for joy through the sorrows of pulling the weeds of consumer/worker roles from our lives to begin harvesting the fruit of intentional community.

The CD was recorded live off the floor with a small community sing-along supporting Rich as he shared his heart and invited the impromptu choir to take part.
